Let’s Talk Medical Grade Skincare…
Medical grade skincare, is it worth it? We think YES, and for a few good reasons!
The majority of medical-grade companies use highly-stabilized ingredients that last longer and take longer to degrade. These pharmaceutical-grade products have strong clinical evidence to support their effectiveness.
Compared to over-the-counter products, medical grade formulas tout more ability to penetrate the skin, making them more effective, which yield better results. Generally, brands that are sold in drugstores contain lower amounts of active ingredients (such as Retinol and vitamin C) in order to be irritation-free for a broad consumer base. Health Canada has legal restrictions on the amount of active ingredients in products sold at mass retailers. For example, 10% is the highest concentration of glycolic acid allowed in skincare products sold outside of dermatologists’ offices and skincare clinics.
One HUGE benefit to medical-grade skin care is that you can have your skin evaluated first before actually buying the product. Skincare professionals (like our RN’s at CMC) can help tailor a program specifically for your skin type and needs. You’ll leave feeling confident that you are investing in effective products this way!
A notion exists that medical-grade products are expensive. While this may be true for some specialty products, rest assured that these costs end up being more reasonable that you may think, especially when you take into consideration how effective the ingredients are. A lot of our patients find that they see amazing results, with less product than they might use from drugstore brands.
